Great Books You May Have Missed!

I feel like I have been missing in action for some time. To kick things off for this very exciting week, I thought what could be better than sharing books that I love. I also thought since I usually post about popular new releases, I would post about less obvious choices for this post. Like me, these books may seem lost in the shuffle, but that doesn’t make them any less relevant or amazing.

Radiant Souls – By Lenee H.

If you’ve followed along at all with my Twitter account, you will no that it is no surprise that this book is on my list. With how much I talk about it, you may think that I was her publisher or publicist, but I get nothing from her sales and am genuinely so excited for her success. As a person, she’s I extremely funny, kind, and has been one of my biggest encouragements on social media.

In her writing, she is completely vulnerable. I really don’t enjoy reading poetry. Most of the time, I don’t get it, and when I do get it, I find it to be really self-indulging. Lenee H. Is a massive exception. Her work is complex, heart felt, and extremely emotional. She strikes a beautiful balance of self-reflection and external interpretation. She uses magnificent imagery, and honestly I haven’t been so moved by a writers work for near a decade.

Impyrium – Henry H. Neff

Yes! Finally a chance to talk about this author. I firmly think Henry H. Neff is one of the most underrated authors in the YA/Young Readers sphere. His work in “The Tapestry Series” is often unfairly chucked up as a rip off of the Harry Potter series. His writing is distinctly unique and exciting! His world in Impyrium and the Tapestry Series is dark, honest, and brilliant. His storytelling is multi-cultural without being forced and does a beautiful job referencing history, art, and mythology.

Impyrium is well worth the read and while I have yet to jump into this next series, I am rereading the original series so I can finish book 5, and will navigate to Impyrium soon after because he is one of my favorite authors of all time!

The Truths We Hold – Kamala Harris

Here comes the political section of our program. I think everyone, whether liberal or conservative owes themselves the chance to be the best citizen they can be, and that starts with being informed. As a YA publisher and writer, I think it is doubly important for young readers to learn about how government works and how it directly affects them.

Kamala Harris’ book The Truths We Hold is a must read. It may not be on everyone’s radar because so much is happening in today’s political arena, and there are so many potential democratic nominees, but this book is honest and gives an in depth look not at policy, but at the character and motivation of a Presidential hopeful. She is a brilliant orator and I have especially enjoyed hearing her read this book through Audible.

Heretics Anonymous – Katie Henry

Must read! Growing up in a Baptist home where I was homeschooled I have not had a lot of exposure to LGBT YA Fiction. I think my background is what makes this book so lovable to me. A great cast of characters surrounding the main character Michael whose an atheist at a Catholic private school was all too relate-able and extremely fun to read. I really enjoyed the writing, and for me it felt like a blast of color in a world that I am all too familiar with in its stark contrasts of blacks and whites.

There’s Someone Inside Your House – Stephanie Perkins

To finish off our list today, I want to share what I am currently reading. I haven’t finished it yet, so I can’t say too much, but so far, I consider this book a must read and can’t help but plug it! Funny, beautifully dark, this book has had me turning the page every step of the way, and it is an absolute must read if you enjoy some light-hearted horror!

I hope you enjoyed our list, and I hope you’ll get yourself a copy or two to finish off your something with something truly unexpected. As always, thank you for going on this journey with us our fellow caravaners!

Very descriptive article, I liked that bit. Will there be a part 2?

    1. I do periodic book review posts, so it isn’t really in parts, but I will definitely be posting more books! If you have any recommendations, please send them to me at @WGPBooks on Twitter

  16. Amazing blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers?
I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for
a paid option? There are so many options out there that
I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Kudos!

    1. It really depends on what your goals are. I like a lot of control over every aspect of it, and I like it to stay cheap. I would suggest using some trials on WordPress.com and Squarespace first, to get a feel for it. If you just want to blog, medium is great too!

If you then want to break through that next step, dreamhost is a really great hosting service, but you will have to do a lot more work. Good luck! I definitely would love to read your blog when you’re up and running! Find me on Twitter @WGPBooks, I’d love to connect!
